ASHLEY MATTHEWS is a Pilates instructor and co-founder of elevate cooperative. Ashley specializes in movement re-education and has worked with the healthiest of clients looking for a fitness oriented experience as well as clients dealing with chronic issues such as disc herniations, spondylolisthesis, osteoarthritis, Ehler's Danlos Syndrome, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, joint replacement and repair, scoliosis, spinal fusions, and more. When not at the studio, Ashley is studying at the Swedish Institute to become a Licensed Massage Therapist and is expected to graduate in April 2018.
Ashley grew up in Pittsburgh, PA training in classical ballet at the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School. Here she discovered her love for movement and the physical experience. After graduating from NYU in 2009, she pursued a dance career while attending the Kane School of Core Integration studying with mentor, Kelly Kane.
Shortly after the completion of her Pilates mat and apparatus certification, she began teaching at Kinected in Chelsea, NYC eventually becoming a teacher trainer for the Kane School. After several years at Kinected and the Kane School, Ashley made the leap into studio ownership co-founding elevate with fellow instructors and teacher trainers, Dianne Wise and Kathryn Comperatore.
When Ashley isn't teaching or at school, you can find her practicing Ashtanga yoga at the Brooklyn Yoga Club trying to learn everything she can from Eddie Stern. And other than all of THAT, she mostly just hangs out and drinks wine with her friends, family and loved ones.
